The Monroe County Public Library provides opportunities for local residents to read, learn, connect and create. The downtown library is located on E. Kirkwood Ave. 303 and the Ellettsville branch at 600 W. Temperance St. All events are free. The event is sponsored by the Friends of the Library Foundation.
Summer Tales with Bloomington Storytelling Guild
Come and hear warm, gentle summer stories in the cool of the library’s auditorium. Presented by the Bloomington Storytellers Guild. From 12 years. It’s Friday 7-8:30 p.m. in the auditorium of the city library.
Movie Night at Flatwoods Park: “Moiana”
Misplaced! Visit the library for a screening of “Moana” at Flatwoods Park. Pre-movie activities start at 8:30pm – Discounts, Games and more! The film is shown near Shelter #1 and begins at dusk. Bring your own lawn chair or blanket. Every age. It’s Friday 8:30pm-10:30pm at Flatwoods Park, 9499 Flatwoods Road, Gosport.
Tiny to two
Families with babies up to the age of 3 can play, sing, read and talk together with their caregivers. Follow rhymes, songs, and books, then stay for some playtime together. It’s Tuesday, 10-10:30 in Briefing Room B in Ellettsville.
Craft club for adults
The Craft Club continues its nature-oriented printmaking. On the first Tuesday of each month, you’ll learn and practice a new printmaking process, using tools found in nature to get inspired and create beautiful works of art. It’s Tuesday 4-5 p.m. in program room 2B of the city library. Please register at mcpl.info/calendar.
Books plus virtual
Everyone is cordially invited to participate in the book discussions – or just to listen. Books Plus Virtual meets on the first Tuesday of the month. From 18 years. It’s Tuesday 5-6pm via Zoom. Please register at mcpl.info/calendar if you have not previously received a Zoom link via email.
3D printing of a library card
Learn the basics of 3D printing. In this program you will learn how to create a personalized 3D printed library card. It’s Tuesday 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Level Up digital creativity center in the downtown library. Please note that 3D printing takes some time, so you will need to collect your print from the library at a later date.
Join fans of classic and contemporary cartoons like Samurai Jack, Courage the Cowardly Dog, Steven Universe, and more for a night of crafts, popcorn, and discussion. Age 12-19. It’s Tuesday 6-8pm in the teenage area on the first floor of the downtown library.
Take care of your body and help build strength before having your baby. This gentle exercise supports the needs of the changing body and deepens awareness of the mind, body and connection of the expectant person with their baby. Yoga mats are available for use in the program. It’s Tuesday 7-8 p.m. in the children’s program room of the city library.
Dine in the library at Lennie’s
Eat for the library at Lennie’s every Wednesday in August. Just show your flyer and Lennie’s will donate 20% of your tab to the Friends of the Library. Gather with friends and family for lunch or dinner indoors or outdoors from 11:00am to 10:00pm. Lennie’s is located at 514 E. Kirkwood Ave, Bloomington.
Preschool Stories and Discoveries
In Preschool Story Time, stories, songs and rhymes get your preschooler talking, singing and playing with books and words, followed by preschool discoveries – fun open-ended art experiences, STEAM adventures and letter exploration. It’s 10-10:25 am and 10:30-11:15 am Thursday, August 4th in Ellettsville Meeting Rooms A and B. For 3-6 year olds and carers. Register at mcpl.info/calendar.
Miniature painting 101
The library offers the minis, paints, brushes and know-how – come and try your hand at miniature painting. All skill levels are welcome. Age 12-19. It’s Thursday, August 4, 3:30-4:30 p.m. in The Ground Floor, a youth section of the downtown library.
