Aquatic superheroes and cartoon sea creatures
Wednesday, July 6 at 6:30 p.m

Friday, July 8 at 6:30 p.m

Join us in celebrating our summer reading theme, Oceans of Adventure, as we read selections of this Ernest Hemingway classic in English (The Old Man and the Sea) and Spanish (El viejo y el mar). ZT saves: river otter
Monday, July 11 at 11 a.m

During this live online program, you’ll meet an otter, ask zoo keepers questions, and learn how you can support the species in the wild. Recommended for all ages. Presented in partnership with ZooTampa and the Lowry Park Zoological Society of Tampa, Inc. “ZT Saves” champions wildlife conservation in Florida and showcases how everyone can help save endangered species around the world.

This program is part of Summer Reading 2022. It is also part of a project funded by the Institute for Museum and Library Services under the terms of the Library Services and Technology Act. The Florida LSTA program is administered by the US Department of State’s Division of Library and Information Services. This event is for all ages. The History of the Ports of Tampa
Tuesday, July 12, 2 p.m

Explore the history of Tampa’s ports and how industry developed from Tampa Harbor to Port Tampa to the Port of Tampa. Almost 200 years in the making, the ports of Tampa have transported all manner of cargo to and from Florida’s west coast. This event is recommended for young people and adults.

An overview of historical Sanborn maps
Tuesday, July 12, 5 p.m

Some of the most fascinating glimpses into Tampa’s history can be found in Sanborn’s fire insurance maps. They give an amazing insight into how the city has grown and changed over time. Learn how to use them in this overview. After the presentation, participants have the opportunity to ask questions.

Money Talks: How Bank Records Contextualize Florida History
Wednesday, July 13, 5 p.m

This presentation examines the Florida Banking Records collection. It will focus on the origin of the records, how they were treated, and why these records are important to understanding the history of the Tampa Bay area. After the presentation, participants have the opportunity to ask questions. Presented as part of Archives Awareness Week, this program is aimed at adults. Book e-Club for Kids: Nim’s Island by Wendy Orr
Thursday, July 14 at 6:30 p.m

Let’s get together and celebrate the best parts of the book! In support of our summer reading program, we will be reading Wendy Orr’s Nim’s Island. Nim is a resourceful girl who lives on a beautiful island with her father and her animal friends. When her father sails away to study plankton, Nim stays behind, but worries when her father’s calls don’t come. Story Time with ZooTampa: Wonderful Watershed
Thursday, July 21, 10 a.m

Stories, action rhymes, songs and interactive online activities make up this special program that combines an animal experience while emphasizing early literacy skills and encouraging reading and social interaction. ZooTampa’s participation in this project was made possible in part by the Institute of Museum and Library Services. This event is for children aged 3 to 6 years. Family Trivia Night: Oceans of Adventure Edition
Wednesday, July 27 at 6:30 p.m

Travel the seven seas and dive into the depths of the ocean to test your knowledge of all water! Categories may include marine life, oceanography, navigation, nautical literature, and maritime pop culture. The winning teams will be awarded.
