Week 4 Probabilities: Get ready for Week 4 at the spa with 12 – count them – twelve bets, eight rated
SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY — Gary Barber and Manfred and Perry Conrad golden glider, who was last seen last of 8 in the Grade 1 Belmont Stakes presented by NYRA Bets, will make his Saratoga Race Course debut on Friday in the $135,000 Curlin, a 1 1/8 mile restricted stakes race for undergraduate students second year who did not win a tiered sweepstakes with a mile or more in 2022.
Hall of Fame coach Mark Casse said he hopes the curlin will be a confidence builder for Golden Glider.
“Those were my hopes and dreams,” Casse said. “But I think it’s a very competitive race, so we’ll see.”
Ghostzapper Chestnut won his first two career starts and graduated from Woodbine in November before earning an optional result at Tampa Bay Downs in January. He competed in a trio of Kentucky Derby Preps and finished fifth in the Grade 3 Sam F. Davis and fourth in the Grade 2 Tampa Bay Derby before another fourth-place finish in the Grade 1 Blue Grass in April at Keeneland. Golden Glider finished a distant second place to We the People in Grade 3 Peter Pan at Belmont in May prior to his Belmont Stakes stakes.
Golden Glider has posted two impressive works about the Saratoga mainline since arriving from Belmont, including a five-eighth ball on July 13 when it went in :59.65, and a half-mile on July 20 in :47, 54
“He’s actually better trained for this race than he was for the Belmont,” said Casse.
Golden Glider, listed 8-1 on the morning line, exits Post 5 under Tyler Gaffalione in a nine-man field led by the Creative Ministers 2-1 favorite on the morning line.
Golden Glider was weaned at the 2019 Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale for $395,000.
Casse said Live Oak Plantation super sensational, who finished second to Robin Sparkles at Sunday’s Grade 3 Caress at Saratoga finished in good shape and will point to a main course event at Woodbine.
“She’s going back to Toronto,” Casse said. “There’s a race for them on the Tapeta.”
