Starting Salary Range: $60,189 to $92,390 per year, salary distribution dependent on documented education and experience; The maximum starting salary level in the faculty salary table is level 9. An annual doctoral scholarship of $4,018 is awarded to eligible faculty.

Description: This full-time, fixed-term teacher for the 2022-2023 academic year under Ed Code 87481/82 will enjoy a 175-day work schedule. The position begins Monday, August 22, 2022 pending ratification by the Board. Instruction may take place in a traditional “in-class” setting, online, or in a hybrid format scheduled over the summer and/or winter months and at various locations on campus, including days, evenings, and/or weekends .

We are seeking a Graphic Design Generalist with broad knowledge of print, web and interface design who has the skills needed to assume a leadership role in the department and to undertake a wide range of courses within the candidate’s specific strengths and areas of interest teach including but not limited to: web design, web development, interface design, principles of graphic design and typography, digital imaging, digital illustration, animation/moving image, self-promotion and marketing. The candidate should have technical expertise in Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator and have a very good command of HTML/CSS. WordPress, Adobe Animate, and social media self-promotion skills are a plus. The ideal candidate is also an effective communicator and team player, facilitating the smooth running of the program and facilities, developing coherent strategies for growth and sustainability, developing student pathways in and through Cabrillo College to career and transfer, encouraging student success and creativity may promote, and potentially lead the program as department chair/co-chair in the future.

Examples of duties

  • Teach assigned classes that may include evening or off-campus assignments
  • Contribute to participatory governance committees, processes and initiatives such as Guided Pathways
  • Maintain timely and accurate records of student enrollment, attendance, and academic progress
  • Providing academic support and related services to students during scheduled office hours. Cooperating with and participating in district investigations and/or student grievance matters relating to alleged unlawful harassment, discrimination and retaliation
  • Demonstrate sensitivity and understanding of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identities, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and staff
  • Work with the Dean of CTE and local education partners to create and update study paths that relate to current labor market demands and local education partners’ curriculum
  • Complete required district training such as Title IX, Mandated Reporter, EEO/Diversity/Elimination of Bias, Workplace Safety, etc.
  • Contribute to facility and program planning, equipment management, ordering supplies, scheduling appointments, curriculum development, attending college meetings, and participating in related professional duties as needed or assigned
  • Communicate with digital media and arts staff and faculty regarding instructional integrity and health and safety protocols
  • Research and develop curricula, certificates, and programs to align with growth areas in graphic design, web design, transfer paths, and career preparation
  • Develop interdisciplinary opportunities at Cabrillo
  • Track grant funding related to the practice of digital media and graphic design
  • Develop partnerships with local secondary schools, universities, industry and community organizations

The nominee will be the second full-time faculty member in the Digital Media department and is expected to serve as the department’s Chair/Co-Chair. As department head, the candidate will be expected, under the supervision of the department dean, to perform department head responsibilities which include, but are not limited to:

  • Facilitate and conduct meetings with the Digital Media Industry Advisory Committee
  • Work with the Dean of CTE to create new study paths that relate to current labor market demands and the curriculum of local educational partners
  • Program planning, including departmental budget monitoring
  • Develop and recommend timetables and faculty assignments to the Dean
  • Monitoring of facility and program requirements
  • Coordination of the general work of the department
  • Curriculum development, review and evaluation
  • Chairing department meetings and assessing student learning outcomes

minimum qualifications
Required education from an accredited organization recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and admissions qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree AND two (2) years of professional experience related to the field of study
Associate degree AND six (6) years of professional experience related to the subject of the course being taught
A lifetime California Community College Instructor Credential in Digital Media
