Nursery Open House at Franklin Regional

Incoming kindergarten families in the Franklin Regional School District are invited to participate in a “Rockin’ Into Kindergarten” program and open house on August 18 at 6:00 pm at the district elementary school, 4121 Sardis Road.

Families can tour the school and meet teachers and classmates.

Kindergarten also starts in stages, as the school year begins on August 24th to 26th. Families can register for a start date at the open house. The first full day of kindergarten for all students is August 29th.

National Night in Murrysville

The Murrysville Police Department is hosting its fourth annual National Night Out event on August 2 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Public Works Garage, 4200 Sardis Road.

“This is something the department and community are really looking forward to,” said Sgt. David Colemann. “It offers a great opportunity to bring police and community together in positive circumstances.”

In addition to police, the event will also be attended by members of the local fire department, Murrysville Medic One, Westmoreland County Emergency Services, the Murrysville Public Works Department and a medical helicopter, which will land at 6:30 p.m

Four local food trucks will be on site, and first responders will demonstrate their equipment and talk about the services they provide to the community.

Family fun night in Delmont

The Delmont Recreation Committee is hosting a “Family Fun Night” at Newhouse Park on July 30 with a free concert by The Phisbins at 5pm followed by a film.

Groceries can be purchased from Salsa Sam’s food truck, along with refreshments from White Valley Distillery and Kona Ice. The film will be “A League of Their Own”. The concession stand is open with drinks, popcorn, and candy.

Newhouse Park is located on Stotler Drive in Delmont.

The committee is also looking for film sponsors. Any person or business interested in sponsoring can call 724-468-4422.

Summer Softball Camp

Franklin Regional Summer Softball Camp is accepting registrations for its sessions taking place August 17-18 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Murrysville Community Park.

The camp is designed for people aged 7 to 13 to build skills while learning the right techniques and methods. The cost is $70 for both days. Admission is half an hour before the start. Water is provided but snacks/lunch are not.

Players should bring their own gloves, cleats, tennis shoes, racquet, batting mitts, helmet and softball attire, as well as a water bottle. In inclement weather, camp will be held indoors in the gym at Franklin Regional Senior High School.
