Cubs collaborate with multidisciplinary artist Louis De Guzman to develop sculptures and a limited-edition collection of merchandise | Pro Club Bd

CHICAGO – The Chicago Cubs have teamed up with multidisciplinary artist and Chicago native Louis De Guzman for a collaboration that celebrates Chicago’s vibrant culture, nurtures the city’s talented artist community, and engages the next generation of fans. The collaboration includes a sculpture on display at the Cubs Team Store on Gallagher Way for fans and a limited-edition merchandise collection for fans to purchase beginning Tuesday, July 26 at 9am CDT while supplies last.

Raised in the western suburbs of Chicago, De Guzman is an award-winning visual artist and designer who creates artworks that fuse his past with his present, merging both traditional and experimental techniques in his work. His signature geometric abstraction style often blends images and stories depicting his family’s immigration journey as well as his own experience as a second-generation Filipino-American. Previously, De Guzman has established partnerships with well-known brands such as New Balance and BAIT.

For the collaboration, De Guzman created a 5-foot, 700-pound sculpture titled “COHERE,” which is a dynamic reimagining of the Cubs’ “Angry Bear” logo in electroplated bronze. The reflective sculpture allows the viewer to physically see themselves within the art and emphasizes a sense of community and connection between viewers. “COHERE” was constructed by intentionally connecting multiple pieces of metal together to represent the connectedness of the community and connection of Chicagoans to each other, their city and their team. The sculpture will be on display at the Cubs Team Store on Gallagher Way from Tuesday July 26th through at least Thursday August 4th before moving to its permanent home on the second floor of the Cubs Team Store at the ballpark, where it will do so to be shown alongside other artist collaborations.

“My inspiration for COHERE was to create a sculpture that literally represents and reflects the connectedness of community and shared sense of camaraderie among Chicagoans and Chicago sports fans,” said De Guzman when asked to share his inspiration for the sculpture to describe . “The energy that can be felt in this city drives and inspires people like me and my colleagues to continue on the path of fulfilling lifelong dreams and striving for excellence. The Cubs reinforce these principles on and off the field. To provide artists of all kinds with the motivation and inspiration to create work that will elevate our city, our community and our fellow sports fans for the better.”

The collaboration also includes a limited edition merchandise collection featuring a short sleeve pocketed t-shirt and a pullover hoodie, both available in sand and black, and featuring De Guzman’s artistic take on the club’s iconic ‘C’ headwear logo . Miniature versions of the “COHERE” sculpt, measuring 7.5 x 5 x 8 inches and made from hand-painted resin, are also available to fans as part of the limited-edition merchandise collection.

“I hope this collaboration with the Cubs sends the message of never giving up on the things that matter most to you,” De Guzman said. “When it comes to your dreams, goals and aspirations, we are clearly capable of anything. Embracing the present to prepare and be ready for the future. I see this collaboration as an opportunity to open the door for other Chicago artists, merchants and communities to work with organizations like the Cubs to uplift and celebrate this incredible city, its culture and its people.”

This collaboration is a continuation of the Cubs’ efforts to engage artists in the community to create collections that connect a younger, more diverse audience with the game. As part of the collaboration, fans can purchase items from the limited-edition merchandise collection while supplies last at 9:00 am CDT on Tuesday, July 26 at The short sleeve pocket tee, which comes in sand and black, retails for $60 and the pullover hoodie, also available in sand and black, retails for $110. The COHERE miniature replica sculpt is available for $375.
