Spy x family CH 64: details

The last panel describes Anya’s personality perfectly in a single derp face.

Spy x family CH 64 is the latest chapter of Tatsuya Endo’s manga. Being the mangaka of this manga means that he is both the author and the artist for it. Shueisha originally published this manga in Japan while Viz Media published it for the NA market.

Spy x family CH 64 was released on June 26, 2022. You can currently read this chapter of the manga for free on Shonen Jump on Viz Media. This chapter will remain free for 2 more chapter releases after this one. When the third chapter is released, Ch. 64 will go into Shonen Jump’s vault. Once inside, you’ll need a premium Shonen Jump account to read it. So if you want to read this chapter, you might want to hurry up.

Spy x family now also has an anime adaptation. You can only watch this anime on Crunchyroll. However, remember that only the first 3 episodes of the anime are free with ads. Crunchyroll locked the rest of the anime behind a paywall. If you want to see the rest of the anime, you’ll have to shell out money for a premium account.

Warning: Spoilers for Spy x family CH 64 below. If you want to see Anya’s fight against her own education, stop here and come back when the dust settles and see if any of that education has made its way into Anya’s extraordinarily thick skull.

Spy x family CH 64: Summary of the plot

Ah, I see our 2 opponents have met.

Spy x family CH 64 begins with Anya waiting at her school’s bus stop after saying goodbye to her best friend Becky. It turns out to be a very long wait as the usual bus driver has an unspoken medical emergency, giving Anya plenty of time to relax. Then old caretaker Henry Henderson finds her sitting on the bench after all the other kids have left. Anya just wants to sit and do nothing, but he manages to bribe Anya into helping him carry some school supplies with the promise of tea cakes.

On the way to his office, the janitor tries to teach Anya a little education. Unfortunately without success. In fact, Anya’s head is so dense that she actually forgot her 2 Tonitrus bolts until the janitor reminded her. No matter how many tales of Imperial scholars the caretaker tells her, no matter how easily he tries to break Mistress Schlag’s unusually strict methods, none of it seems to penetrate Anya’s thick skull. All Anya does is stuff her face full of tea cakes as soon as she gets them and then goes home to watch espionage wars. I don’t think she even heard the janitor’s offer to tutor her.

Operation Engage Anya’s Brain: Success?

Well, at least Anya has empathy…sort of.

Amazingly, that night, after seeing and hearing about Loid and Yor’s difficult jobs (as a spy and assassin, respectively), Anya makes a decision. She actually decides not to espionage wars for that night and asks Loid to help her study after dinner. However, Loid takes this the wrong way and assumes (not without reason, mind you) that Anya got another Tonitrus Blitz and promptly has another mental/emotional breakdown. As Yor comforts a trembling Loid, Anya gives him the most hilarious, deadpan look I’ve ever seen in a manga.

Will Anya actually give up her TV entertainment to actually get better? Will she be able to convince Loid that she didn’t get a Tonitrus Bolt and that she really wants to learn? Hopefully we’ll find that out in the next chapter of Spy x family.

Spy x family CH 64: The good

Arguably the best scene in this chapter, all thanks to Anya and her bottomless belly.

As usual with Tatsuya Endo, the story is the best part Spy x family CH 64. This time mainly because of the interactions between Anya and the old caretaker. Watching the janitor try to get an education past Anya’s thick skull is truly the masterpiece of comedy. It’s like watching someone try to drive a nail into a tank. There is simply no progress here. And yet the ending somehow added the comedy while also adding a sense of heartwarming tenderness to it. It showed that despite the little progress the caretaker seemed to be making, some of it came through and made Anya want to study for his (and her) sake. Loid’s understandable reaction just added the finishing touch to this comedy.

The artwork of Spy x family CH 64 is the other great thing about it though. Mainly because of Anya’s hilarious facial expressions. Everything from her absent-minded expression to her “OMG I forgot my Tonitrus bolts” expression was pure comedy gold. Every face she makes is just perfect for the situation in terms of comedy value and I love it.

Spy x family CH 64: The Evil

Not to mention Anya’s faces, of course.

I personally have zero problems with it Spy x family CH 64. This whole chapter was pure comic relief after the heavy chapters with Loid’s backstory. However, I do acknowledge that those who are just in action probably won’t enjoy this chapter as much as the others. I would vehemently disagree with these people, but I accept that there could be such people.
