The founder of White Pyramid built a nail salon and art gallery in S’pore | Pro Club Bd

River Valley is home to the eclectic White Pyramid Gallery & Nail Bar, a place that blends art and fashion.

It is the idea of 28-year-old architecture graduate Arinah Rahid. With a firm belief in making beauty, wellness and art accessible to everyone, she founded White Pyramid during the height of COVID-19 in September 2021.

Arinah spent most of her youth abroad, jetting between France and the Far East. A visit to a foreign art gallery inspired her to dip her toes into the entrepreneurial world.

Art is a form of communication, be it on walls or nails. I saw an opportunity to create something different for people to enjoy. You can get your nails done and admire the artworks in the same room.

With an artistic background, Arinah is closely associated with the local art scene. Aside from beauty services, she wanted to attract both local and international artists and give them a platform to showcase their artworks in her gallery.

For her, collaborating would allow artists to better connect with people.

Tailored nail polishes that are safe for everyone

The space exudes luxury, from the overall aesthetic to its services. Its all-white interior is anchored with a chic communal nail bar accented with a Delft blue backdrop by Carasaven.

Meanwhile, the walls are lined with paintings by various artists: Erick Centeno from Italy, Amirul bin Azman from Singapore and Wendy P. Forsyth from South Africa. The artworks not only serve as inspiration for the customer’s nail art, but are also available for sale.

Arinah’s gallery also houses a single face booth. Clients can choose from several trendy facial treatments lasting between 30 and 80 minutes. Complimentary sakura black tea is served, or champagne is available at an additional cost if guests prefer.

Aside from the two-in-one art gallery concept, the highlight of Arinah’s shop is her own line of 100 percent vegan, cruelty-free, and 10-free nail polishes.

“We mix all of our bespoke nail colors in-house for our customers. Because this is a custom nail polish line, there is no limit to the range of colors we can offer. White Pyramid customers have the artistic freedom to create their own unique color that reflects their personality,” explains Arinah.

Aside from being made to order, their nail polishes are also halal (water permeable) and safe for pregnant women and children. The vegan polishes are made without 10 of the chemicals most commonly found in nail polish.

Her nail polishes are also easy to apply and remove. All colors are also formulated to only require a single coat for full coverage and can last up to a week.

Master challenges with creative solutions

Arinah’s main obstacle in starting her business was mainly finding experienced and capable employees.

“Similar to other companies, the challenges we have faced over the last few years have been manpower. To overcome staffing shortages, I sometimes take on clients myself to ensure we are providing the best customer service.”

She also turned to social media — Instagram, TikTok, and even YouTube — to increase brand awareness. However, she admits that her most important resource was the recommendation of her happy customers.

In terms of funding, Arinah shares that she pooled a significant amount of her savings to start her business. Despite White Pyramid’s initiation during the pandemic, it was fortunate that it managed to break even within the first six months.

At the moment, she is focused on ensuring the success of her two new stores, which she opened in less than a year, in Sentosa and i12 Katong, and selling her range of bespoke nail polishes internationally.

“Given the success, my plan is to create numerous nail salons in Singapore and expand my product line to the international market,” she says.
